BOBOTIE ( True South African Dish )
- 2 onions
- Oil /butter for frying around 2 dbl
- 1kg mince meat
- 1/2 slices of bread (optional)
- 1 cup of milk
- 2 eggs
- 1tbl curry powder
- 11/2 tbl sugar
- 2 tsp salt
- ½ tsp pepper
- 1 tbl turmeric
- 2 tbl vinegar
- ½ cup raisins
- 3 tbl chutney
- Bay leaves and whole almonds to decorate
Fry Onion and then mince together until meat is just brown.(Soak Bread in Milk while you fry meat and onion, then squeeze out milk)Then add ALL the ingredients together except for 1 egg, ½ milk, Bay leafs, nuts. Mix together well and then put into baking dish and then flatten down, stick Bay leaves and nuts on the top (the nuts sticking up on end). Bake in Oven 180c for about 30min, take out of oven and mix the egg and milk together and pour over meat and then bake again until top is nice and brown and firm to touch. You can add mushrooms,veg, anything else you fancy.

Quick and Easy Mince
- Fry Meat ( mince ) 1/2kl / 500g
- Add pkt of brown onion soup mix
- 125g plain yogurt
- Little water if you are going to make say Shepard’s Pie so that you have some juice
If you want to do meat balls leave out water. They say this is soooo good I have not tried it yet but will sounds so easy!

Boiled Peanuts
- Drop Peanuts with their shell on into water
And boil for around 1/2hr to 1 hour
They are ready to eat.
Peanut butter soup
- Fry onion then add garlic and chicken ( about 1 fillet )
Then add water around 2lts and cook until chicken is cooked
Then add smooth peanut butter ( one jar )
( you could add veggies at the stage of adding water )

Rice crackers
Cook rice ( in salted water ) then dry it out, then add small amount of oil to small fry pan, cooked rice to f/pan push Down with your hand and cook for just a few minuets, Then turn it over, then once you slip it from the pan you Can then break it up and eat it Mmmmm
Tabioca rolls
- Put ll amount of Tabioca into fry- pan that has a little oil and push down and fry for 1-2min
Then turn it over and cook for 1-2mins
These pancakes are great with cheese,meat, anything you fancy
Dear Crazy Travelers, the Bobotie recipe above has one minor mistake: it should not be a loaf of bread, rather 1 or 2 slices In fact, a lot of people leave the bread out nowadays.
